The Business of Music Therapy:
A Guide to Program Start-up and Collaborative Partnerships

Description: Are you ready to expand your music therapy business by establishing new contracts, developing programming, and collaborating with others? Then come learn from an expert in music therapy! Dr. Deforia Lane will share her successes in each of these areas, giving you strategies and practical tips for expanding your business. You won’t want to miss this event!
Learning Objectives:
Participants will be able to:
- Assess their current practice and determine areas for expansion or improvement (CBMT IV.A.1)
- Identify two strategies for expanding their music therapy business/starting a new music therapy program (CBMT IV.B.4)
- Identify ways in which they can implement new treatment programs (CBMT IV.B.1)
- Identify ways of collaborating with other professionals in order to expand their practice, promote music therapy, and better serve clients (CBMT IV.A.4 & IV.B.5)

Total Time: 150 minutes = 3 CMTE Credits
Cancellation and Refund Policy: Cancellation requests received in writing at least one week in advance will be refunded course fee minus the paypal processing fees (.30 + 2.9%). Requests made less than one week in advance will be refunded course fee minus above paypal fee and a $5.00 processing fee.
CMTE Information:
The Business of Music Therapy: A Guide to Program Start-up and Collaborative Partnerships is approved by the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT) for 3 Continuing Music Therapy Education credits. Credits awarded by CBMT are accepted by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC). Summit Music Therapy Services, #P-114 maintains responsibility for program quality and adherence to CBMT policies and criteria.
Instructor Bio:
Dr. Deforia Lane serves as Associate Director of the Seidman Cancer Center, & Director of Music Therapy at University Hospitals of Cleveland, Seidman Cancer Center and Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital. With early intentions of pursuing a singing career, she completed her Bachelor Degree in Vocal Performance at the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and began graduate studies at the Curtis Institute of Music. She attended Cleveland State University for her Masters Degree and earned her PhD in Music Education from Case Western Reserve University. She holds board certification as a Music Therapist and is certified by the American Music Therapy Association for Faculty Authorization.
